This place is delicious and I love how they give you chips and amazing salsa to start while you wait for your order. I got a breakfast burrito and it was the perfect size and just delicious. I plan to always stop here on my way up north!

fresh good Mexican food with lots of choices! "hot" sauce wasn't spicy, but there's tapato on the table. I'd pick this over taco bell everyday!

Pretty good Mexican food! The location is very convenient with a Starbucks next door ! The service was little slow but no complaints as long as the food tastes good :) Oh, their margarita is awesome! I tried mango and it was delicious.

Stopped here for quick food on the way back flag. The two youngsters up front were very nice and helpful. I had the asada burrito. Wonderful. Great. My friend had a machaca Ranchero breakfa d t burrito. Good too. Loved the horchata and hot salsa. Mild was watery - but I'm a gringo so take that with a grain salt. Will be a regular so on my way to and from the high country

We just stopped at Gabriellas for their breakfast burrito because of the great reviews. Meh. $11.04 for 2 burritos with a tiny bit of bacon, a little bit of egg,and a whole lot of potato. Not so great. Won't stop there again.

Not a lot expected. Girlfriend got the breakfast burrito and it was large and they accommodated her special requests. They were just about to open he newly renovated cantina part so we couldn't get a beer but the counter server offered the bottled sodas. Love my some piña, girlfriend wanted an advertised coke in a bottle but they were out. Restroom was clean and my carne asada tacos were decent. I did like the tortillas. Salsa I could pass on but was complimentary. Three odd things: 1.All they played was Selena. Don't get me wrong I love Selena. I own the greatest hits cd. So I was able to sing the whole time I dined but change it up. 2. Hide all the groceries that you bought at the grocery store. Dining out is an illusion and I like to believe I get things I couldn't get at home. I don't want to see the branded items in plain view. 3. There's a large portion of their menu and wall space dedicated to vegetarian dishes. I only found this odd because we were passing through a small town and it made me think, apparently there's a huge vegetarian presence here. I wouldn't mind stopping in again if I were passing through to Fossil Creek.

Tasty, fresh Mexican fare and the perfect alternative to all the fast food if you are passing through the area. I had the carnitas and enjoyed it thoroughly. Excellent salsa, friendly service...get IN! Don't forget to say hello to the worlds largest kokopelli while you are visiting.

Under new management. They are having a grand opening in september. The food was good. It is not cheap though. A quesidilla was $10. They do have daily specials.

Hidden gem! Agree with the other reviewers: excellent pit stop on the way to Flagstaff or Phoenix. The carne asada fajita burritos and tacos are delicious! And a great deal at $2.49 per taco. Friendly staff is a plus!

A very friendly place to get quick mexican food. We stopped by for an early lunch because of good ratings on Yelp. We were happily greeted. We were ok with paying extra for add-ons to our meal. I really enjoyed the red salsa. We went through quite a few of those. We got another basket of chips (very good). Overall, we were pleased by the service. My friend enjoyed his meal. However, I was not satisfied with mine. I would have preferred bit more vegetables and ingredients in my vegetarian burrito with two scrambled eggs. I would go there again if I am in the area, and there is nothing else that I want to try. However, you should give it a try if you are inclined.

Such a nice little place. Highly enjoyable grilled jalapeno on the side MADE the dish! Order the "Fresh Homemade" and smile all the way home! The only thing missing is cerveza!

This is the best Mexican food between Phoenix and Flag, hands down. We stop there every time. We have a large family and have tried several different items on the menu. All meals were excellent. Overall, highly recommended for the quality of food. I would give them 5 stars for the food. The next part is for the owners/managers. Lighten up, smile. Every time we've been there there has been a rushed, unfriendly, stingy atmosphere there. We came with 7 people (2 parents and 5 kids) last time, and you didn't give up two (very small) baskets of chips. I had to ask for the second basket (which only contained about 10 chips). You gave us the 2nd basket, but it was like you were doing us a big favor and even commented that it was against policy. Seriously? We spent well over $70 on our visit and I had to beg for 10 chips. Another suggestion, put the menus at the entrance, not just the order counter. You have a large selection of great food. The first time that we were there, there was a long line that took 15 minutes to get to the front of the line. Only then did we see the full menu (other than what was on the walls). The menu was taped to the counter as if we were going to steal it. No other menus were visibly available. At that point, we started to look over the menu and you gave us attitude because we didn't have our orders ready. First, loose the attitude. Walking into your store was like walking into the Soup Nazi episode of Sienfield. Second, put menus out at the entrance. Both problems solved. You have great food. You just need to work on your bed-side manners and basic restaurant logistics. Having said that, I highly recommend this a your traditional stop anytime you are traveling between Phoenix and Flagstaff.

Excellent good to-go place. Everything os extremely fresh. Service friendly. THE place to go on the way to Flagstaff. Couldn't expect better

  • Christine T.

Simply delicious breakfast burritos! Service is a bit slow, especially when you're anxious to get back on the road, but the food is worth the wait! Plus I think there is basically one woman doing all of the cooking from scratch, so, yep, definitely worth it! The world's largest kokopelli is also in the parking lot, so there's that to look at while you're waiting. Service is also very friendly! Definitely recommend if you're going between Phoenix and Flagstaff/Sedona/Jerome or beyond.

  • Gillian K.

This place was pretty dang tasty. It served us well on our stop through. Note! The chicken fajita taco is GIGANTIC! The other tacos are standard size, but this guy was jumbo. Luckily my fiancé who has a gigantic appetite helped me finish it off. Friendly staff, tasty food, jumbo taco time

Stopped by here for a quick breakfast after visiting Montezuma Castle National Monument nearby. What a great discovery. A delightful taqueria with a very interesting and lengthly menu that includes breakfast. I had a $5 breakfast egg and potato burrito wrapped in stretched flour tortilla.Fabuloso! Plus, when you stop for a bite to eat, you get to see the world's largest kokopelli located in the parking lot.

Small taco shop right off the I-17 in Camp Verde. We had 1. 3 bean burros 2. 2 beef tacos 3. 1 Nachos 4. 1 side of rice The kids liked the burros but said they were not the best ever just good. The tacos were the highlight and were real good. The nachos were ok, the carne asada was fresh at least. The rice ... well I never tried it. The kid ate it just fine. The total with 3 drinks was $35.00 (5 of us) $10 more then Taco Bell.

    (3)
  • Jess S.

$1.50 for this baby side of chips hahah. Small towns nickel & dime til the very end. They charge for every little thing! ...beware! Fine for tacos if your hungry

    (2)
  • Trisha T.

Perfect for us! Traveling from Phoenix to Sedona, making a stop at Montezuma Castle. This is counter service, but a huge step above Taco Bell. The food was yummy. We went on "Taco Tuesday" so tacos were $1.50 which made it very economical. Service was excellent - the people were nice and the restaurant and bathrooms were clean. Highly recommend for a quick stop to avoid fast food.

  • Tabitha T.

Great pit stop on the way to Sedona from Phoenix. Lots of homemade items. Carne asada salad was perfect. Tacos were definitely a cut above your standard formulaic Mexican/American resto. Wish this place was in Phoenix!

Stopped here on our way from Sedona to Phoenix and was thrilled to find a restaurant that wasn't a chain. Authentic Mexican food - delicious homemade tortillas and salsas. Fast, friendly service. Skip the burgers and grab something you will actually enjoy.

We knew this exit had a decent amount of fast food options and all we needed was a light lunch to tide us over until dinner. We were planning on going to subway but Gabriela's caught our eye. We figured we'd try something new, we're both very glad we did. When we walked in we weren't impressed with the look of the place and probably would have left if we hadn't already read the Yelp reviews. One of the major problems are the handwritten signs everywhere, it's all a bit too much. The menu on the wall was OK but it didn't explain much. We asked how much for chips and salsa since it's not anywhere on the menu, that clearly confused the lady working who explained the price for to-go chips and salsa. We explained that we were dining in, which she then explained chips and salsa are included. I ordered two chicken tacos and James M ordered the fajita chicken burrito since the only other ingredient in the chicken burrito besides chicken was cheese, it sounded really boring. A little girl (by little, I mean 10) brought us our chips and salsa. The salsa and chips were homemade and very tasty, it's nice to have chips and salsa that didn't come from a factory somewhere. I wasn't expecting deep fried tacos, i probably wouldn't have ordered them if the sign explained they were fried. But, they were fantastic after pouring some salsa on top. His burrito was huge and very hot. Loaded with lots of onions and peppers. I would like to see this place do well, but I think they need to clean it up a bit, remove all the unnecessary signs, get better decor and have better descriptions of their food.

Great place. They've expanded and now have sit down service for dinner. Ingredients are fresh. Service is quick. Some of the best Mexican we've had in our travels! Did not expect such a treat at a highway stop between Flagstaff and Phoenix.

    (5)
  • Lindsey B.

I had the combination plate with an enchilada and burrito. The food was delicious, although I wish you received more salsa/chili with your meal. It was reasonably priced and the staff was very friendly. It was a great place to stop for lunch on our way to Sedona!

    (4)
  • Leigh M.

Wow!! Was not expecting such fantastic food from a place we just happened to stop in on our way home from Flagstaff. The tostadas were by far the best I've ever had...fresh lettuce and salsa, the chicken and carne were great, and the shell was perfect. Flavorful and crisp, not soggy at all like many I've had. My husband liked his breakfast burrito too.

    (5)
  • G K.

Off the hook! Fresh, fresh and more fresh. We stopped by this morning for a late breakfast and ordered a "surprise me" burrito. Gabriela did not disappoint. This place is all about the food and we enjoyed breakfast so much we got a couple of fish tacos to go. A perfect reason to pull off highway 17. I will be back...

I was disappointed. The staff was very friendly but I found my burrito and my husband found his chimichanga to be bland. As was the salsa and guacamole. The best thing we had was the sopapias for dessert. They were very good. Not a bad meal but it wasn't a great meal.

    (3)
  • Anji C.

Don't bother going anywhere else. This place is sooo good. Get the hot salsa, not mild. I wish they had medium chunky too. The bean, cheese and fiesta veggie burrito was a party in my mouth.

Friendly staff and great food. Highly recommend it to anyone. We were just passing by from Phoenix, and happened to find this place.

    (5)
  • Trudi S.

This has got to be the best Taco Shop anywhere. I live in California and make it a point to stop here anytime I'm in Arizona. Everything on the menu is fresh. The beans are made without lard. I highly recommend the shrimp or fish tacos.

    (5)
  • Boris K.

Authentic for sure. Nothing special though. Much room for improvement in decor and professionaling menu boards, plates, etc.

    (2)
  • Taylor F.

The chips and salsa were the best part. Hot thick chips and a nice fresh salsa. It went downhill from there. My fish tacos were super fishy, the lettuce was super soggy and wet, served with a heavy mayo "tarter sauce" Rice and beans on both paper plates had obviously been microwaved with no flavor. You're better to keep driving than stopping here.

    (2)
  • Maynard G.

This is a really nice little place. I never even knew about it before. Tried chili rellenos and tacos. Excellent, and excellent fresh salsa, and they are very friendly too. Plus they have very good daily specials.

Love love love! Great service and food! Went to fossil creek and on our way back, we decided to stop here. It's very quaint but the food is the real thing. I am of Mexican decent and I know when it's legitimate Mexican food. So glad we decided to stop. P.S. The carne asada tacos are delicious!

    (5)

  • Steven J.

Maybe it was because I was surprised...but the quality of food was excellent for what I thought would be a dive. Had the chilequiles for breakfast with her spicier red sauce and couldn't have been more satisfied. Good portion, good food...definitely better than famous pizza next door...which is a far cry from a Good slice Had to add to my initial review...it's 6/14 and this is my second visit...chili rellenos were excellent. The plate comes with a small salad that has tomato, non-iceberg lettuce, onion and cilantro. Rice and beans were really good and homes with smoking hot tortilla freshly made. The chili relleno itself comes in covering that tastes better than most I've had. This is the best place between flagstaff and Phoenix. They also serve breakfast all day, and have healthier options than any other place in at least a ten mile radius. I still love it.

    (5)
  • Rodd S.

Great taco shop on the way out of town had the breakfast burritos really good on the way home 7 days later we had dinner god tacos and burritos staff was very friendly both times definitely going back next time we go out of town

The vegetarian burrito is amazing! Home-made potatoes, green chilies, cheese and pinto beans....Will make sure I make this place a pitstop every time I drive down to Phoenix!

I, my husband, my brother-in-law, and my 8 year old son ate here on our drive back to Phoenix from Flagstaff. What a great find! Fresh, homemade chips and salsa. My son got shrimp soft tacos and loved them. My husband got the beef fajita burrito and he thought the seasoning was really good. I got a chicken taco and a beef taco. Tacos shells were also homemade. All fresh ingredients. Staff is also super friendly and very helpful.

  • Dani B.

Not impressed; FYI the fish tacos are deep fried. Asked for a cup of water and was charged $1.99 when we asked about the charge she said it was an accident and gave us a free cup of horchata.

Sweet stop on our way up to Flag. Shrimp pizza is great. the shrimp are tasty and prepared perfectly. fresh ingredients. the fish tacos were a bit dry and overcooked. stick with the shrimp pizza. it's comes out quickly and deliciously!

  • Karen Z.

Food tasted great. I ordered the #11 Carne Asada plate with rice and beans. The meat was seasoned really well and the rice and beans were very favorable. There was about a 20 minute wait from the time we ordered till we received our food but that's understandable considering we went during the lunch time rush and there's only 3 people working. First batch of chips we got were good but the salsa was a little too runny for my taste. Overall I'd recommend this place and will be back when I'm in the area again.

    (4)
  • L P.

Glad I stopped here for lunch, it was yummy! Taco Tuesday specials ($1.50 each) and burrito Thursday specials ($5.00). Glad they have some street style tacos here too. Comes with chips and salsa. I'll be back!

  • Lauren Y.

Absolutely delicious! The service was fabulous and when I mentioned I am vegan, I was informed the rice is cooked with chicken stock but she could make me a lettuce wrap with sautéed veggies and beans. And it was amazing!!!

  • K S.

It's right off I-17N which is very convenient. It's very casual and clean. They have friendly service. I ate the vegetarian burrito it had roasted potatoes, green chilies, cheese and pinto beans. Flavorful and delicious! My husband had the chicken fajita burrito it was a bit plane he had to add jar tapatio hot sauce to jazz it up. It was just ok. My son had a ground beef burrito with cheese and beans. He enjoyed it. The chips and salsa are definitely small, but tasty. We had to try it since it's homemade. I think it deserves 3.5 stars but yelp doesn't allow 1/2 stars.

    (3)
  • Brian B.

Good food, great service. Had burrito and enchilada plate. It came with rice, beans, chips and a drink for under $10.00. Was a good portion. Shared with brother and son and it was pretty filling. I'd definitely eat here again.

Best chili relleno ever.., made with Anaheim Chilis. Their lunch salad bar special is wonderful. Create your own meal in a large tortilla bowl... Includes soup and a drink. Dog friendly. Gabriela and Jen are so friendly and helpful!

We stopped here on our way to Sedona from Phoenix and had a restaurant.com certicate. People are really missing the mark when they stop for fast food across the street. Food was delicious, authentic and fresh. Everything was homemade, we ordered extra chips because they were fresh from the fire and the best I've ever eaten.

They do a great job at a great price. Only problem is now that the restaurant opened she doesn't deliver to the office anymore. Best wishes for continued success.

Meh....I wanted to LOVE this place. Paper plates were sooo flimsy. I ordered the green chimi and he had the enchi special. Mediocre at best. I loathe restaurants putting restrictions on chips and salsa and drink refills. Nobody else does that that I know of any where! I don't make a meal of it but really? Tortillas are cheap, get over it. Someone wanted a tamale and the lady cook said they only sell them in 6 and 12. Wtf? It wasn't that busy but she seemed fairly put out by having to prepare meals. She also barked at the guy working the register to take out the trash. I won't be back. Adiós taco trash beast.

$1.50 for this baby side of chips hahah. Small towns nickel & dime til the very end. They charge for every little thing! ...beware! Fine for tacos if your hungry

I had the combination plate with an enchilada and burrito. The food was delicious, although I wish you received more salsa/chili with your meal. It was reasonably priced and the staff was very friendly. It was a great place to stop for lunch on our way to Sedona!

This has got to be the best Taco Shop anywhere. I live in California and make it a point to stop here anytime I'm in Arizona. Everything on the menu is fresh. The beans are made without lard. I highly recommend the shrimp or fish tacos.

  • Happy G.

Not impressed; FYI the fish tacos are deep fried. Asked for a cup of water and was charged $1.99 when we asked about the charge she said it was an accident and gave us a free cup of horchata.

Excellent food. A must stop when going to sedona or flagstaff. Prices are unbelievable. We are connoisseurs of Mexican food. This is right up there with the best in Phoenix.

Food was just ok. It was kind of dry and bland. It wasn't bad, just not very tasty. Tables weren't very clean. We probably wouldn't go back.

Glad I stopped here for lunch, it was yummy! Taco Tuesday specials ($1.50 each) and burrito Thursday specials ($5.00). Glad they have some street style tacos here too. Comes with chips and salsa. I'll be back!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
